The Office of the Attorney General of the District of Columbia reached a settlement with Lyft, Inc., resolving an investigation into Lyft concerning its failure to provide proper notice to consumers about fines the company imposed when scooters were parked improperly, between January 1, 2022 and September 7, 2022.
Eligible consumers were sent an email with a claim number and PIN. If you received an email regarding the refund, you are eligible to claim your refund.
You will need the claim number and PIN from your email to claim your refund.
Under the settlement, Lyft agreed to fully reimburse affected District consumers, paid $20,000 to the District and has already made changes to its systems to ensure users are notified about DC’s scooter parking rules and notified of any fines imposed for parking violations.
For more information about the DC Attorney General’s case, visit the DC Attorney General’s website and search for Lyft.
To claim your refund, you must file it by July 3, 2024, select a payment method and complete an IRS W-9 form.
Please note, if you owe taxes or child support to the District, your refund will be used to pay your debt. Before the OAG authorizes any payments to an eligible claimant, the D.C. Office of the Chief Financial Officer shall determine whether the claimant owes any amount to the District and will deduct the amount owed from the award to the claimant, if any. See D.C. Code § 1-301.86c(d).
You can claim your refund now through July 3, 2024.
The deadline to file a claim form is July 3, 2024.
Claimants will receive a refund of their fines by electronic payment or check. ACH credit, PayPal, Zelle and Venmo payment options are available.
